Paha, a lance at that speed hitting leather armour would either lift the guy right out of his saddle or just go straight through him. There is no way a human body and leather armour could stop that much force concentrated into such a sharp point.

In every medieval tournament the deal is to break your spear on the opponents shield... Look at special design of tournament shield. Small with some curvy shape- pretty hard to hit. Most of "medieval" movies are just directors fantasy.

... If you get hit by a spear from a guy on a horse, the only thing that could have saved you in that day and age were heavy plates of steel or somehow dodging it.
That's why in jousting tournaments the armor they wore is so ridiculously heavy. To shatter the spear raher than let it go right through them..
