I AM an American, so...what's wrong with "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" (no "The" in the proper title) as literature? :( It's not classical literature, but it's still one of our great works...Mark Twain isn't popular in England? I like YOUR authors, England...why u racist? ;)

@Dop122 Apologies for being pedantic but our numerals actually originated in India. They were called 'Arabic' by Europeans, as they reached Europe via the Arab world. ;)
