From the amazing DVD of Mozart's Così fan tutte, recorded at Glyndebourne in 2006.

Ivan Fischer directs the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

Don Alfonso: Nicolas Rivenq
Fiordiligi: Miah Persson
Dorabella: Anke Vondung

I have yet to come across a more compelling DVD of this opera (or *any* opera, for that matter) - you won't regret buying it, even if it ought to come with a complimentary fire extinguisher!

I am not sure how anyone can consider Mozart anything less than the greatest musical genius in history. This music possesses an almost perfect beauty. Thank God for Mozart. His music is a foretaste of paradise.

@Mirandu Kan It seems to me much more liberating to allow myself to shed the ego and all of its prejudices, and to experience all things subjectively. It is possible to consider any given thing without clinging to or investing yourself in it completely, or even at all. It is possible then to impose your own meaning upon such things, and even to use them to humorous (well, it was to me) effect now and again. So don't let yourself fall prey to that sort of narrow-mindedness: best wishes.

@Mirandu Kan Is it that you might not restrict yourself in your ideals, that your mind might, bereft of the terrible, suffocating influence of religious belief, be receptive to all.things without bias? Because in that, you could do no worse than to refute that or any belief system entirely.

@ While I will first take pains to stress to you the fact that that final statement concerning The Terrible Deity was included for comic purposes (I will neither deny nor confirm the existence of God or a God, because nobody can), I shall also endeavor to ask you precisely why you refute the existence of such a thing as God so readily.

God made nothing, on account of Him not existing.

But I agree with the rest of your post.

(But between you and me, I think there's a lot more to a great woman than a pair of tits, however lovely they may be, don't you?)

Yes, these women have fantastic voices: they are also attractive. I see no shame whatsoever in recognizing and expounding upon the latter point. Sexual attraction is just another crucial part of the human experience: it is not low or shameful, and should not be treated as such. Suffice to say that God made Mozart, and that he also made breasts. And he saw that they both were good: I'm certain Wolfie would agree..

The music is so beautiful, and so perfectly descriptive of the libretto as to move one to tears.
