HD version, filmed in High Definition. The trail to Iceberg Lake has to be one of the top hikes in Glacier National Park for sheer awe and beauty. Starting near Swiftcurrent Motor Lodge, the trail climbs 1200 feet in just under 5 miles, ending at an incredibly beautiful and massive glacier-carved cirque. In this particular ranger-led hike on the first of July, Iceberg Lake was still frozen solid so the iconic floating "icebergs" for which the lake is named had not yet formed, although the small lake just below Iceberg Lake was thawing. Along the way you'll cross Ptarmigan Falls, see a wonderful variety of wildflowers and wildlife, pass through cool forests and climb steadily up above the treeline. A special thanks to the NPS Many Glacier Trail Crew who were working hard digging cuts through the snowdrifts blocking the trail. As the young man leaning on the shovel for a hard-earned breather said, "Just another day working in paradise."

  • F*****g Beautiful_!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome.i was at gnp at end of july 2010. This would of been an great hike.

  • Nice job with this video.

It's great to see the wildlife and scenery of this trail hike presented this way.

  • The last time I was there a moose had wandered into the water and died of hypothermia. The rangers used dynamite to blow it into small pieces so the bears would not stay long. When it was re-opened there were small tuffs of fur all over the beach/trail end area. This is one of my favorite hikes by far.

  • I am surprised that you do no have more positif rating this is absolutely gorgeous!!!!!

  • @cleeef same. check to see if its open though before you go there, its often closed due to grizzly activity

  • My favorite national park. Beautiful camera work and editing. Mark Finley just shared this with me about coming out with Blu-ray releases of this and other Finley programs.

Hi Ed, thanks for the compliment. Nothining better than filming in the National Parks! Blu-rays coming next spring. Every thing we've shot over the last 4 years has been high def.

    Mark Finley

  • Very nice! Looking forward to doing this hike in summer 2010.
