SUVARNA NEWS 24X7 - http://www.suvarnanews.tv - 13 oct 2011 -
Lawyer-activist and a member of Anna Hazare's team Prashant Bhushan on Wednesday accused right-wing group Sri Ram Sena of being responsible for the assault on him and demanded a ban as well as social boycott of the outfit.

Around 4 pm on Wednesday, Bhushan was getting ready to speak to a television channel. But he was abruptly cut short with a hard slap to his face. Bhushan was then dragged out of his chair, kicked and punched repeatedly.

The attack was condemned from all quarters, including Home Minister P Chidambaram who said one person has been arrested. He also asked Delhi Police to arrest the other two attackers as soon as possible.

Shanti Bhushan said, "I have no idea what the intent is that will only be found out after a proper investigation. Prashant is a brave person, he will be undeterred. I am proud of him. It's possible that some people are not happy with some of his cases but if they think that this will stop him then they are mistaken."

Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare also condemned the attack and said, "It is not right to take law in their hands."

Bhushan, 55, was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and later discharged after check up. After reaching his home in Noida, he narrated the incident and sought a ban on organisations like Sri Ram Sena which practices "goondaism" of this type in various cities across the country on whatever issues it likes.

Inder Verma who claimed to be from the Sri Ram Sena, a little known New Delhi-based outfit, was the attacker for Bhushan's recent views on Kashmir.

Verma said, "We beat him up because we are upset over his statement on Kashmir. He is a traitor."

Verma was arrested soon after and the police clarified that this was not the same outfit as Pramod Muthalik's Sri Ram Sena that carried out protests against Valentine's Day.

Shortly after the arrest, Tajinder Singh Bagga said he was also present in Bhushan's chamber during the attack and had purposely dropped a pamphlet bearing his name in Bhushan's office.

Bagga said, "We planned it on the first but couldn't do it then. So we managed to get an appointment today and carry it out."

Police is now investigating whether Bagga is the same person involved in the attacks on Kashmir separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani. The police is also verifying reports whether he was part of the Tiranga Yatra in Kashmir.

Bagga, however, admitted that he has been actively involved with the BJP's Youth Wing but now operates under the banner of an organisation called the Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena.
