One of many attempts at rhythmic dictation. This time, instead of my rhythmic creation, students created their own 'rhythmic sentence,' which they had to figure out how to notate. This is in preparation for the final project, which is to compose an original song.

  • and yes i do think it's unprofessional or i wouldn't have said it.

  • Thanks for getting back to me—I appreciate this dialogue very much. You've given me serious food for thought on the issue of cursing. I have mixed feelings about it, to be honest, and will certainly be more attentive to the matter.

Have you found more rhythmic dictation help online? I might have a few websites I can suggest.

  • wow...nice that the teacher is teaching..encouraging...and wanting the students to curse...nice job.

Very unprofessional.. where is our world coming to???????????????

  • Do you really feel that using the phrase "to kick one's a**" in a class full of adults is unprofessional? If so, would you prefer it if I bleeped out that word so as not to offend whomever might find this video?

That reminds me—I'm curious how you found this video. Would you please let me know?

Thanks very much for your time.

  • Please don't trip on some of these comments. you aren't teaching grade school. Using ass doesn't make you "unprofessional". do your thing. you know what most of us are trying to learn. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

  • hey i don't mind letting you know how i found this video. i was looking for a video that would teach rythmic dication for not just 4/4 time but 6/8, 2/2, or 3/8 time something like that.i like the explanation very much of the video.i just wish the person didn't curse.. If you want peeps to not be offended.. you might want to put up a similar video where there is no cursing. & why should i care if the students are adults? Cursing doesn't really bring out the best in anyone whether you are 5 or 50

  • Liz, this is one of my favorite music theory lessons of all time. I'm glad you decided to share it with the world. - WAV
