In this video I want to show you how I deal with temporary internet files. Because I don't want them to mess up my hard disk I have to get rid of them somehow: Gavotte's RAM-Disk! Also useful for resting the solid state drive (SSD) by preventing unnecessary write cycles to the flash cells.

*UPDATE* : I found an alternative RamDisk software which works on 64bit platforms as well! You may find the direct download link in the description below.

There are several RAM-Disk software on the market like Cenatek, SuperSpeed and QSoft, but they are all shareware and require registration! I happen to find Gavotte's Ramdisk which is based on the Windows Ramdisk without the typical 32MB limitation. It's free, very easy to use and has 85% popularity ( Dec 2008 ). Plus, it speeds up your internet browsing (not the Internet connection!).

Free Gavotte Ramdisk Download link:

Dataram RamDisk free downloa link:
http://memory.dataram.com/__downloads/memory/ramdisk/Dataram_RAMDisk_V3.5.130...

Advice for Vista and 7 users: You must right-click "ramdisk.exe", select "Run as administrator" to install the drivers, otherwise you'll get the "Fail!" error message in return!!!

Important: Gavotte's RamDisk will only work on 32-bit platforms while DataRAM runs on both platforms!

Hope you enjoy this helpful vid!

  • Did you get this music from the game Submarine?

  • @GlobeRoad Nope, it's the "Windows Welcome Music" you hear when finishing a fresh installation of Windows XP while creating your Username account(s). The audio file is called "intro.wma".

  • My firefox browser got slow these days just when i install Advanced System Optimizer 3. Do you think there is file that has just been deleted without my knowing..??? can i restore my browser from the time I haven't install ASO 3?

    Anyone please help me!!!

  • @anlemz :

    What you can do:

#1: Test the RamDisk for full function. If it has been tampered with by ASO3 you will need to uninstall and reinstall the RamDisk drivers.

#2: Reinstall FireFox (may have been modified by ASO3).

If both match, get rid of ASO3 and obtain TuneUp Utilities instead.

  • what if ur ramdisk runs out of space?

  • @Daren2007 : This can't happen as long as you set FireFox's memory limit within the total amount of the RamDisk as seen in the video. This lets FireFox act like a caged animal: running across the cage floor while growing up to a pre-defined size until the session is closed!

I've been surfing for hours with a bloated 64MB RamDisk and never had any trouble with it.
