Here's John Mayer live at the Madison Square Garden, NYC on February 26, 2010.
I bought my ticket for this concert on pre-sale a few months back but still, I couldn't get closer seats. Well, what more could you expect from an (in)famous musician such as John Mayer? While at times, his voice faltered and missed a couple of notes during this night, you can never deny what made him famous in the first place: his guitar playing skills and song-writing talent. It's always good to watch someone perform and feel how passionate he is about what he's doing.
I honestly thought this night will be heavy on Battle Studies, so it was quite a surprise that only about a third of his set list were from it. A pleasant surprise anyway, since I've always wanted to at least have a glimpse of his music's evolution from Acoustic, Alternative, Blues, and well, some borderline Country as of late. We had a healthy serving of these in this concert.
I'm kind of glad that during the banter in between songs, he didn't blurt out anything that could damage what little civility I have left for John Mayer the person--Oh yes, I firmly believe that the former is mutually exclusive from what I came for: John Mayer the musician. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being awesomest concert ever, I'd rate this as an 8. Shrieks from fangirls every 2 seconds seriously kept my ears ringing, and holy shite, MSG's got some serious speakers. I felt my heart tremble at times.
He played 16 songs and I managed to record until halfway through No Such Thing until my memory card ran out. I captured the rest with my iPod, but the audio quality isn't that good so I won't bother putting it up. Steve Jordan, his drummer had a solo between Waiting On The World To Change and Assassin and I had to erase that as well to fit in more of JM's songs.
Anyway, enough blabbing. Here's the set list:
01 Heartbreak Warfare
02 Good Love Is On The Way
03 Vultures
04 Perfectly Lonely
05 I Don't Trust Myself With Loving You
06 Comfortable
07 Free-fallin'
08 Steve Jordan drum solo
09 Waiting on the World to Change feat. Michael Franti
10 Assassin
11 Crossroads
12 Half of My Heart/Dreams (Fleetwood Mac)
13 Why Georgia
14 No Such Thing
Encore:
15 Who Says
16 Guitar Solo
17 Gravity
Enjoy!
"I'm kind of glad that during the banter in between songs, he didn't blurt out anything that could damage what little civility I have left for John Mayer the person" Really? So he said some stupid things in Playboy, get over it.
