Human Powered Flight First in the world. Canadian students from University of Toronto, Todd Reichert and his team were able to fly the plane for 19.3 second upto 475.72 ft only with peddling and flapping. What Leonardo-da-vince was not able to do, Todd and his group were able to successfully do it. It is called Ornithopter, which was first sketched by Leonardo da Vince in 1485. Since then, So many peopled tried to develop Ornithopter but all were unsuccessful. The University of Toronto students have named it as Snowbird, which weighs 92.4 pound.

  • This is NOT human powered flight. The Ornithopter was pulled into the air by whatever vehicle was used, and then glided back down. The only thing the human did, was prolong the glide.

  • I was there for 60 of the 65 flights. In all the early testing he had to learn to fly this machine and there was NO flapping. Slowly, he learned to control the machine while flapping. On all flights with no flapping, it was back on the ground in about 100 feet. When he was flapping, it continued flight as long as he had the energy to pump his legs.

  • @jiberish001 yeah, and tv was once black and white and shaped like a cube

  • @jiberish001 yea i was thinking the same thing when i watched it. I thought they finally made it fully human powered. Oh well

  • Seriously that's bad. Title is certainly misleading. As many others said it's just a glider and nothing more. I would be positive to this if gained even a foot in height, but after it got disconnected from the vehicle it just fell down. Disapointing.

  • Looks Smart Car powered, not human powered. This is a flapping glider, not an ornithopter.

  • hahahah----this just blown my mind-----i would expected them to paddling or operating some manual mechanical stuff

  • wonderful 5**

  • The only thing they did is take a very un-aerodynamic glider and make it flap its wings, if you want to make enough upward energie he would have to flap its wings much faster, even with those long wings, because its weight of the aircraft is to big, and look up the word glider, they are not the first... The first real gliders were used in WW 2, and after that the germans started making alot because they were not aloud to have plans with engines, look up the names: "schempp hirth" and "Alexande

  • How about the title , "The first gas powered flight that flaps!"

Seriously though that less than 100 lbs airplane was pretty damned cool :)

  • @ReyAudentio WTF did you want him to do? Jesus that was fucking awesome...
