This game has two parts, a simulator and enemy base exploration. I start with the simulator, then show the base and in the end return to demonstrate more features in the flying section.

The second part is the only one I've played before. There it's possible to avoid an alert if papers pass a check, but this step seems to be dependent on luck and not the person asking.
Pressing B, S & I in sequence will get the helicopter running and when an alert sound starts, the joystick needs to be pulled backwards until the noise stops. Turning sideways before gaining some altitude will result in crash. Damage is displayed in a status screen (access key = T) with red circles above damaged parts and a text describing the broken parts. Sounds and flying are affected if the engine gets damaged. H activates the weapons, but there might be an additional step as well. There's missiles and a cannon, but I'm not sure how these are switched. I couldn't hit anything even when I managed to shoot and didn't find out where chaff and flares are released. Keywords for the simulator part are overlord and infiltrator (this I found in a comment at lemonc64). I don't know how to find the mission zone and the game crashed if I tried using the tactical map after giving a callsign so I also demonstrated what happens when fuel runs out.

  • I recently uploaded (and added annotations to) four videos about this game detailing various aspects of the gameplay and showing one way to complete the first mission from the beginning to the end. I chose to post them as Video Responses and I hope that they answer to any questions that you might have about this game.

  • I watched your playthrough for the first mission. That's a very good demonstration for a complex game. Nice to see you also added useful info with annotations.

  • ohhhyes!

i was searching for this one for years!

that was a fun game, but i didn't remember the name---now i can dl and play it again!

brings back good old memories, thanx!

  • Thanks for commenting. This is a pretty complex game on c64 standards. Please leave a comment or video if you figure out something I missed here.

  • @fuckenmike God forbid you weren't out of the room when they woke up. Never seemed to work with the 'show me your papers' guy.

  • he sure loves to hump everything he searches... :P

  • wooooooooooowwwwww!!!!!!!! I use to spend hours playing this game. Use to love the spray that knocked out the guards!!!! thanx for the post!!

  • damn, ive been wondering what game this was for ages..only found its name by googling "spectrum game, chaff" the chaff part was all i could remember

needless to say I was terrible at it, couldnt even find any of the camps. Think my old man got me to one once but i snatched the controller off him and got killed instantly. Good times.

  • I always liked the flying parts, once your in the air you have to push up and fire to increase the speed and I think it was the # key where you then inputted the coordinates like 72.8 and then it set it on the compass for you to fly to. I finished the game but it took a lot of time and drawing out a lot of maps lol, definitely one of my fave c64 games though.

  • I never really uhnderstood this game, even though I had the Original (in a pack of 10 games, without manual though). I don't know how long i sat in fron t of the screen trying to get that damn heli to lift off, then one time it did but I was so excited that i instantly crashed it down again..

  • The flying part was very complicated. You have to set coordinates to fly to the enemy base. If you are attacked, watch if the 'R' or 'H' is flashing. If 'H' flashes, shoot a flare. If "R" flashes drop some chaff.

I remember having to hold a button to toggle modes for the controls, like to fly forward, push the button and press up.

I beat this game on the NES which might've been easier with the controls distilled down to just the control pad.

  • yeah this sure brings back a lot of memories i guess we were there from the beginin kids growin up in these times would prob say we played a lotta crap but this sh** was awesome and u can really appriciate how far gamin has come...
