I dug up an old hit parade (local not national) from 1968 and was amazed that I didn't recall many of the songs listed as the top 50 for that week. I didn't remember this song or this band but when I pulled it up and heard it, I loved it. Anyhow, it made it to number six in my area the week of February 23-29, 1968 (dropped to number 10 the week after).
This made it to #2 in Louisville, KY in February 1968 and is my favorite song by them. Another should have been that just didn't hit in enough places at the same time.
Erika, thanks so much for posting this. I had an old reel-to-reel recorrding of it, made in 1968, but haven't heard it in years. Never heard the beginning of it before. Never heard it in stereo. I've looked everywhere. Where in the world did you find this? And ditto to everything "doesntmatter" said just below. He/she really gets this song. 1968 had a lot of good songs, but this was one of the very best, and it just disappeared after the first of the year. Thanks for finding it for us!
Thanks so much for posting this great, yet largely forgotten, song by Mouse and the Traps. It was a big regional hit in the Rocky Mountain West (and possibly elsewhere?) and I've looked for it for a long time. It's full of heartfelt yearning and the lyrical hope for love, even if it "takes a long, long time." I always loved these lyrics, an anthem to alienation: "This town has many faces, but none that I can see. No one seems to want me, but they won't let me be."
1st time when I've heard this song from another singer, I love it so much...
Who can provide us the lyrics?
That's great!!!
Thanks for sharing.....

Still a beautiful song, with a double chorus, how nice! Saw them back in '69 in Louisville, KY. Thanks to Youtube for memories like this!!
