This is the brief story of the mural painted by Jose David Alfaro Siqueiros "America Tropical" and how his use of spray paint inspired many graffiti artist to do the same. The purpose of this video is for my ENV 101 class over at CalPoly Pomona. If you go there or happen to go in the future, take Marta Perlas for the ENV 101 class. She is awesome. So back to the video, it was shot over at Olvera Street. Video was taken from a documentary that I had researched. I just put my own audio over it to cover the main points. It deals with the controversy surrounding the "America Tropical" mural painted by Siqueiros and how city officials covered the mural months after its creation because they were offended by it. Enjoy, learn, live, educate, respect, and have fun.

  • what is the music in this? KooL mini doc.I shared it with my art students.

  • @todolosdolores The song is "Tres Delincuentes" by the Delinquent Habits. And sorry for the late reply, I've been busy myself with classes.

  • 3:45 shows a rendering of what looks like the top of La Golondrina Mexican Cafe. Is that rendering a real life project or a student project?

  • @montes40 Yes that is the proposed rendering of what the project hopefully will look like some time this year in 2012. The rendering is a real life project.

  • Can't wait until I see the restored version.

  • @dimex1 Same here. I have a relative that is part of the restoration committee. Sad part is I didn't even know about it till I was doing some research and saw pictures of her at the official ground breaking ceremony. It should be a large event. One that I am sure will be broadcast by the local news stations here in the Los Angeles County area and neighboring counties as well.

  • @montes40 that is a rendering of what the current project should look like once it is completed and open to the public. So to better answer your question, it is an official rendering. What I am not sure on is if it is an official rendering by the the Getty Institute who is helping out with the restoration project. It should be pretty interesting. If you go Olvera St, right next to the Golondrina Cafe, is where the renderings of the proposed project are on display for all to see.
