We may not all be bike mechanics but Eric Carter at High Sierra Cycling and Fitness wants to make sure we at least know how to get our bikes ready for the spring season. So grab your bike pump and some dirty rags and get ready to get your hands dirty while he shows you how to get your bike ready for the spring.

  • He never addressed the adjustment of the brakes

or taking into account the possibility of shifter cable-stretch. Shifting can be improved by zeroing the front and rear derailleur,(taking the tension off of the spring)and taking up the excess cable slack, either by unscrewing the adjustment barrel,(tightening the cable),or by actually loosening the derailleur cable bolt and taking up the slack with needle nose pliers, then tightening. Don't forget to set the limit screws for high and low.
