At our elementary school in Alaska, the sixth graders (who were graduating) sang the song to the Kindergartners (who were about to go into 1st grade- which would be like the first day of 'real' school). It was the school's way of welcoming them into the school before the sixth graders graduated. The sixth graders wrote out letters to the Kindergartners and then gave them to the kids(like diploma's). I loved this song!
Oh, gosh, I love this song! Even though I am almost 23, I still think this song is one of the greatest things that ever happened in the history of folk music.

the first time i heard this song was at my daughter's graduation when she was 4 year's old ,now she is almost 11 and i' still love this song.
