Demolishing Slums of India!

Slum Demolition is a common practice that has been taking place in India in the name of development. This video was made recently about the event which took place on January 24th 2009, in which 2000 people have been displaced in the Mumbai district called Nagar Mankhurd in Maharashtra state. All slums MUST be destroyed! these people are only exploiting loophole in the system! Even if the govt rehabilitate them, these people rent those houses to earn money and continue living in filth!

There are slum lords and slum dwellers, just as there are developers and working class renters. If land ever belongs to anyone, it has always belonged to everyone. People are pushed out of their traditional lifestyles in rural settings, and expected to put up with death by starvation or poisoning.

They move into the city and you expect them to act nicely when they are told that they are stealing land? Remember that they are still living way under the poverty line.

See, these people are squatters, and they are getting in the way of general economic progress. The demolition will allow new houses to be built. This will benefit society as a whole, as the supply of housing units increases.

the slums need to be demolished. They are horrible, unsanitary places full of filth, disease and poverty. THe problem is the people breed like rodents in these slums.

@RajBrahman No its not!! If you're not amongst the millions whose land has been illegally usurped - you will never know how it feels to have your life's work taken away by vote-bank politics!! All slums are illegal -they're homes built on someone else's land . if if this kind of stealing is justified - then stealing as a whole should be justified!!!

@RajBrahman No its not. A dear relative of mine committed suicide because his land was illegally taken over by a slum lord. his appeals to the dwellers to give back HIS land was fruitless and they even threatened to kill him. This good man killed himself. Take my word for it - slum dwellers are not as pathetic as the media potrays them to be. Just like my relative, hundreds of thounsands of hectares is taken over illegally. if demolition is the only way to get justice then DEMOLISH them!!!
