I'd never dream of attacking and you're 100% right - the Marvelettes didn't get their due. The Apollo tape, also here on YouTube, proves what a joyous and disarming group of performers they were. Now, here we are on YouTube 'singing' love songs back to them as they long ago did for us. Let us hope all the surviving members have found their way to YouTube and know that they are never forgotten and as cherished as when we were all in the springtime years of our lives.

Holland Dozier Holland and The Marvelettes are the best combo.

Blakshepard...I am aware of what my girls the Supremes did with the great songs given that were cute, I was just saying that hard kick a** songs Martha, Gladys, Kim, Brenda could handle very well. I wasn't knocking Diana as I am well aware of her achievements since I was a kid of 9 in 1964 but folks will always bring her into the picture when it comes to Motown for that's just the way it is.

@Vincent50 Those CUTE songs that were given to the Supremes Became No.1s..something Martha nor Gladys seem to could get no moatter how powerful their voices were. People Pay Big bucks today still to see Diana and are very very satisfied with her voice. Really dont know why every time the marvelettes and vandellas are mentioned..Diana's name has to Find its way into the topic. amazing. Motown was more than just Soulful voices it was about MUSIC to appeal to all races this diana did.

@dvlaries Your posts are fantastic to read. I do like "He's A Good Guy Yes He Is," but when you raise the question of one being selected over the other, I too have to wonder why the nod was't given to "Knock On My Door." "Good Guy" is a fun song and I truly love it but it does seem that "Knock" has just a bit more of an edge. Maybe Quality Control felt that having a Martha and the Vandellas and a Marvelettes track out at the same time with similar beats would weaken the chart action of both.

@dvlaries Wow! Love your comment; very insightful and I especially like the statement that the combo of the Marvelettes and H-D-H "should have been explored further." When you hear "Finders Keepers" you get just a glimpse of how great future Marvelettes / H-D-H songs would have been!

I LOVE MOTOWN!

I discovered this song on a compilation album and fell instantly in love with this song. HDH and the Marvelettes would've been a great combo and I can hear a similar fire that HDH gave Martha and the Vandellas. The Supremes were given cute songs that were great but Diana wasn't the singer Martha and Gladys were for they were soulful and full of energy vocally.

This tune had a release date of December 30, 1963-

Man this song is red-hot. The furious pace alone is astounding. I love the use of both the Marvelettes and the Andantes doing extra backups. I think though, what sells the song for me is that sax solo. There's such a contrast between the frantic barn-burning pace of the band vs. the don't-bother-me-I'm-taking-my-
slow-sweet-time pace of that sax! What a sweet and tough track! Those Marvelettes could rock with the best of 'em!

I can remember the first time I heard this back in 1990 on WOL. an AM oldies station in Washington DC. I was like WOW. I found the cassette "Never -Before-Released masters"... I have this on CD. From the CD "Marvelettes Forever" Why was this song canned? I don't know . Now if they had put a tambourine in it...that would have been EXPLOSIVE> Thanks for posting this song.
Yes, I'm back here again to appreciate this one yet some more. Only the 'down-dobee-down-down' chorus dates this record as quintessential, pre-Beatles girl group-era material, but, had it been released in its own time it would sound just fine in the company of contemporaries like It's My Party, Da Doo Ron Ron, and My Boyfriend's Back, and it could have been a hit as big as any of them. Marvelettes in the hands of H-D-H is obviously a combo that should have been explored further.

It's an age old story they never give proper credit to where its due. The marvelettes were a great group and they never receive the praise due there name who knows it could be because of the rumoured tension between the lead singers in theor group and the supremes lead singer idk i could be wrong diana ross lovers dont attack me!!!!!!
