The LAFD no longer carries "life nets", however, there are many truck companies that cary a more modern version, the "Air Rescue Cushion." (It is a giant inflatable cushion that a person in need of rescue could jump into) Although, the speed of setting up the ladders carried on the truck companies, make them the preferred method of most rescues, as setting up the Air rescue cushion takes a little bit more time.

Many years ago, I traveled to Taiwan (Republic of China). I stayed in a 5 Star Hotel - the Guest Handbook advised the traveler that if he/she smoked in bed and caused a fire, he/she would be criminally proscecuted if they survived.
