I am TOTALLY diggin' this "head bopper/hip shaker" from the 1970 Portrait lp. This is a funky cover of the Dave Mason *Traffic*song that Joe Cocker famously remade. From the tinkle of the piano that drives the melody especially at the intro and breakdowns, and the heavy bass that drives the rhythm, to the drums laying down a phat beat, this song is just infectious. Add to that Billy's soulful, gritty voice accented by Lamonte & Ron in the back and Marilyn & Florence layered on top and behind Billy, this song is a real groover!!!

*Note: Grand Funk Railroad also remade this song...but in ISIS' opinion...This verison by the Fab 5th is THE BEST!!!*

Billy isn't "underrated"--he is completely ignored in the annals of Soul. Not to knock David Ruffin or any of my other favorite male soul singers--but Billy's voice never lost any volume no matter how high the notes were. Billy Davis Jr was MASTERFUL. Still is,

@MsTexas73 I'd rate him lower. He sounded VERY awkward...(his "soul" wasn't on the same count as the 5th's was)...yeah, just awkward.

I threw a party not too long ago and a mix of music playing in the background. Then this song came on and my guests suddenly stopped - kinda looked at each other and suddenly all broke into dancing. The song played another three times that night! I think Billy would be proud!
