Originally part of a school project, this video was lost for quite some time. Computer breakdowns are not nice. However, I recently found a copy of it on a computer at my school, so I was able to re-edit it and put it together for publishing it online.

The video itself is a short documentary of life in the 1800s in America - clothing, lifestyle, etc. Features stock footage as well as music from Elmer Bernstein, the song is the theme to a classic war movie called "The Great Escape." (not to be confused with the song by the group, Boys Like Girls, titled "The Great Escape."

The video mentions Mark Twain because it was orginally designed to go along with another video that spoke about the famous American author (who lived in the 1800s). You can find this second part on my Visionary Productions channel at www.youtube.com/VisionaryProduction.

Nonetheless, enjoy! By Visionary Productions by Tomas.

  • I liked the music used during the showing of the newspapers near the beginnings - was this copyright free stuff or something you composed?

  • nah it's the theme from The Great Escape (1961, i believe)

  • I am currently transcribing a journal from the mid 1800's and found your video quite helpful in telling me more about the times. It has me in a wonderful time warp, admiring days gone by. Thank you for your efforts. What state are you in? Wondering if it was NY.

  • @lisarenna nah, I'm in Florida. And glad you found it helpful!

  • @VisionaryProduction

    so THATS where its from.

  • good job

  • Brilliant ! Well done ,I wonder if you got a bad grade because you lost your work ?

  • around 2000 years or more from now, people my age would also be going on some holographic/brain chip implanted internet site for videos searching, "songs from year 2000" lol

  • This should really be AMERICAN Life in the 1800s.

  • Cool. School project?

  • This period was all about slaves. Yet you fail to even mention the word. Families did work long hours on the fields and children most likely did partake in the work. All true except the majority of families who completed these tasks just so happen to be black slaves!

  • Whers the coke?
