Some authorities say that the phrase hog eyed man has the same meaning as a one eyed snake, a sexual one. Other sources say it refers to a D ring to be found on barges. D rings looked like a hog's eye. These barges were crewed by blacks. A man who worked on them was known as a "hog eyed man"
It sounds like it could be a swedish folk tune, the way you play it. Almost anyway.
