Elie, the Commander of the Advance Force of Congo Rangers in Virunga National Park, talks about the dangers faced by his men in protecting the wildlife in the park, including the hippos and the critically endangered Mountain Gorillas. Hardcore by anyone's standards.

  • Yeah, that was what inspired me really.

Though i cant find the full episode.

  • its on you tube, and yes he still trains new people to become rangers, i think its in the congo

  • There was a tv program called guns for hire and the congo episode was all about this ex marine who was training rangers. i wanted to be there so bad.

  • I have always had more sympathy for animals than i do people, it upsets me so much to see the poachers work done on a zebra or elephant, i hate it. There is so much anger in me when i see those pictures.

I want to joint the Royal Marines as it comes with the most advanced basic training in the word. I want that training, but i really want to fight with the rangers after that.

  • do something for the animals, dont fight to kill other people. instead help and fight for others that want to protect animals. rare that anyone defends animals like this

  • Thats good, i was planning on joining the royal marines (UK) for a few years, and then going on to do this.

  • i wrote that last one with bad spelling sorry.

yes yes and yes, there are many hot spots in africa where poachers will try and "pop shot" at you. Most the time people dont get killed. But rangers in africa are almost as good as our navy seals. WHY? Africans have been guerilla fighters since the day 1 of combat. African rangers are trained to use the enviornment for protection. Some of them are capable of killing u before you can scream.

  • would combat experience be valuable in terms of getting a job?

  • ranger courses in africa. there like 8-10 weeks not all of em some are shorter. and most places dont hire those who want to get paid, they always look for volunteers. its instant to join if you want to valunteer. there always accepting free workers
