Here is a HP 8016A word generator sending 6-bit parallel binary to a HP 1607A logic state analyzer, which is using a HP 130C oscilloscope for display. The 130C is an old model, and doesn't have Z blanking, which is why the binary is being drawn in 'cursive' on the oscilloscope screen. The 8016A is also sending a clock pulse to both the 1607A and a HP 5326A counter.

The 8016A and 1607A are companion instruments, designed to be used on either end of an IC test subject. The 8016A generates a user-programmable 256-bit loop, which can be transmitted as 1x256, 2x128, 4x64 or 8x32. In the configuration shown, it is transmitting in 8x32, with only six of the eight channels being sent to accomodate the 1607A's six-bit probe. The 1607A supports up to 16 channels, divided among two six-bit probes and one four-bit probe.

  • that is some damn cool stuff my friend. its like being in a mad scientist's laboratory. got a question for you-Ive got an HP 130c which is in decent working condition but just sits in my attic. any idea around what that would be worth? ebay turned up nothing. thanks

  • @AlfredRusselWallace The 130C is a fairly rare HP scope. It's one of the more 'collectible' HP scopes because of its age and quality, but the frequency range isn't very high and it doesn't have a storage function, so there isn't a huge demand for them. They're probably worth about $100-200, if you can find somebody willing to pay the shipping costs.

  • Very nice. I don't have any HP equipment, surely nothing that old, but I do have 1960s Tektronix oscilloscopes here.

  • Interesting, the 1607A is probably one of the earliest logic analyzers I've seen. I dig the fact that it uses an oscilloscope for it's display :).

  • Vintage HP to be sure ... don't see too many Logic State Analyzers driving 120AR series scopes these days ...
