Yowsers!!! This is my first time listening to this amazing pianist, and i LOVE him!! I've never heard this work played with this much - well, this way at all: he finds things in the music which others simply don't. To my mind, it is irrelevant whether or not Beethoven had this kind of interpretation in mind when he wrote it - music has always been a combination of composer and performer: both make a personal contribution to the end result, and who is to say the composer must always be right?

I shall have to listen to it on youtube, then :)

metteholm75: this interpretation is good, but you must listen to this piece in Arrau's hands!!!

@joaodsyt You are right! In fact I listened to the Arrau recording just yesterday! He takes the fugue at a breakneck pace and it's fantastic!!

If ever there were mystical traits in Beethovens music...... Sokolov brings them out. Has this been transferred to digital media????
Man, I´d love to own a copy of this recording.!

@metteholm75 Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, it has not been put out on CD.

Thanks for audio ! Sokolov's interpretations are amazing as usual...I'm just curious: why Mr. Sokolov hasn't any video-chronicles at his young age ? As I know USSR was equipped with TV stations since Stalin era...& he is younger then Richter or Gilels...

@sam0xin You're more than welcome! I'm not sure why there isn't video of him when young.
