@stevenaschmied what you need is one of those huge ships that carry cars. they are about the size of a tanker and they have a full displacement hull. in galveston bay it will create a 5 foot hollow wave that last for a few min or more in one spot i know.

A fast fat barge would work better as the flat sides don't actually contribute to the wakes.
