Athens Ohio "Riots"

Compilation of videos about the supposed "riots" in Athens, OH by the University students in the mid 90's. Notice how the media can create a story and how the police really handled the situation well by shooting wooden bullets at a bunch of students milling in the streets. Enjoy!

Funny how you put "quotes" around "riots." Were you there? I was present for the gathering, before things went down, the previous year in 1997. Most bar owners could have handled it better by making repeat announcements all night, as did Bill Cash of Night Court. Patrons could have handled themselves better, by dispersing or calmly going to nearby restaurants.  I had the good sense to go to BK, then walk home along side streets and avoid the idiocy.

I was indeed there both years. I just thought it was funny how the media kept calling it a "riot", when all I saw was a bunch of students standing around for 2 hours or so. Oh, someone threw a lit cig in the trash that caused a small flame up, but that was about it until the cops opened fire.

and people say this is a free country - people have a right to stand anywhere just aslong as no one was breaking and entering/destoying shit and if police were still shooting the students than i would have been throwing flameing cocktails at the police

WTF..this is so stupid...These students did not do anything. It looks a bit like Iran or a police state..The police does what they want and the people is afraid. The media is always so biased. The Greeks were so damns right in occupying the News stations for some days...

I went to O.U. in '73 - '74 and in the Spring of '74 they had similiar riots with the same wooden "knee knocker" bullets. Must be a seasonal thing.

athens wouldn't even be a town nor would all those cops have a job or for that matter be born given people wouldn't as many kids if they could not afford them without the college,

kids bringing money from outside the community bringing it in every year is the only economic activity they see,

those cops are idiots,

college kids are idiots,but the are some of the biggest buyers in the u.s. otherwise
