At Japans Kamine Zoo, visitors just cant wait to meet the newly born lion cubs. The three cubs, named Karl, Mimee and Neymee, were born last month and have become popular with visitors young and old.

[Maru Kobayashi, Visitor]:
"They're really cute because you don't get a chance to see them that often and because they're really rare."

[Hikari Sekiya, Little Visitor]:
"The babies are cute."

These are the first lions to be born at the zoo.

Many have come to the zoo especially for the cubs.

[Takeo Arakawa, Visitor]:
"They're really cute aren't they? I heard they were just born and so came here to take pictures of them."

Each cub now weighs about 13 pounds and has been growing quickly.

[Nobutaka Namae, Zoo Director]:
"They grow up quick. We hope visitors can see them while they're still this cute. For the time being, we hope to have them do their best as the star of Kamine Zoo.

These cubs have just learned to purr and waddle about as they make their first baby steps in becoming the king of the jungle.

Human contact is kept to a minimum, despite the special enclosure.

Their mother feeds them and only handlers are allowed to touch the cubs.
