Monett, MO Tornado Warning Sirens May 22, 2011

Was heading west on U.S. 60 as the weather started getting really crappy. Sirens were going off as I was heading into town. When it was obvious shit was going to hit the fan, I U-turned and the closest thing was a Wal-Mart where it started pouring and they were sheltering people in the bathroom area in back. We were there about 30 minutes and the sirens were set off about 10 separate times. The tornado path crossed about 1.5 miles north of the city, as evident by snapped trees and damaged buildings. This was from the same parent storm that produced the Joplin tornado.

@XxjoshthedragracerxX When you're under a siren, the sound doesn't travel downward as much, so you won't be getting the brunt of the 2001. When I was beside one while we were under a tornado warning, I was about 200 feet away. With the horn pointed at me, the sound was intense enough to make my ears begin to ring intensely.
