One of Xenakis' piano concerti, Erikhton, which is most-likely the most violent and temultuous of the three real "concerti".

Hiroaki Ooi performs.

  • What is the artwork displayed as the image in this video? I like it. Is it part of the album from which this recording came?

  • It is a painting by Kandinsky.

  • 0:15 to 0:57 reminds me of someone tuning a piano. I love the unusual dissonance of this section.

Another favorite is 3:11 to 3:35, as well as the trombone part at 3:03

  • wow so much emotion is all of his works :)

  • Does anyone know the name of the Kandinsky painting?

  • @CapnKeys It sounds FRESH to the jaded ear. I find that dissonance is relative. Once a person is exposed for awhile to what most consider dissonant, he or she discovers both the particularity/distinctness and the beauty in what was once an undifferentiated "noise."

  • @volitivo1 ok amico io rispetto la tua opinione ciao

  • @CapnKeys it's the thought that somebody actually thought this music out is what is crazy, it takes an insane amount of talent, timing...and also this is atonal, meaning, he uses notes that sound like they aren't supposed to go together, that is the kind of music theory that you can't just teach, it is a very difficult skill to play atonally!

  • I don't mean this as an insult at all -- this guy is clearly a genius, but I'm just wondering what it is people see in this music. Once again, I'm not bashing it or anything, it's just that to my ears it sounds like noise. Could anyone give me an honest answer to why the 20th century genre appeals to people?

  • Wow! This is awesome

  • great music

  • Lol that's marvelous.
