The St. Croix African Roots Project, a searchable database with more than 1.8 million entries from the Danish colonial period on the island, was officially launched Saturday, July 18, in Frederiksted, V.I. In the video, George Tyson, who headed the effort, describes the project, and Mary Roebuck, one of the data entry specialists, describe how she and her colleagues became attached to the people whose lives they were resurrecting through the old records. And V.I. Gov. John deJongh Jr., speaking at the launch ceremony, describes why the past is important to us today.
The fun used in this video is very cool!
