Can anyone explain to me how this piece is supposed to recall the image or sound like a Chinese tambourine?Or why this piece is named after it?

I wouldn't blame you at all for loving Vengerov's version, but I don't think skipping notes is necessarily an endictment of bad playing. The greats do it all the time in order to preserve rhythmic pulse and musical line. Shaham so beautifully captures the spirit of this piece, and besides, don't you love the notes he adds? Cool left hand pizz in the middle section . . .

He's playing it so quickly that he is 'skipping' some notes, that's a shame. I like Vengerov better on this piece.
Shaham is a great musician though, I used to have a cd of him playing Ernest Blochs Baal Shem and Suite Hebraique, I just listened to it over and over again :)
