Each year downtown L.A.'s tallest building (and the highest skyscraper west of the Mississippi), the 75-story U.S. Bank Tower (formerly Library Tower), plays host to a unique athletic event that also servers as a fundraiser for the benefit of the Ketchum downtown YMCA.

Starting at street level, participants ascend to the roof of the building, traversing some 1,500 steps over the course of more than 1/5th of a mile straight up in a unique test of endurance.

This was my first time participating and had no idea what to expect in terms of my performance or how long it might take to finish. I had conservatively estimated somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 minutes. I was very very surprised to find out afterward that my official finish time was 16:48. And what an intense and grueling time it was.

  • It's actually 1,018 ft.

  • Man, imagine if this skyscraper would be scrapped. Los Angeles wont be the same! I love Los Angeles how it is, and I how this beautiful city will never get hit by an Earthquake or anything else.

  • Apologies to @meupnoseu for making a video that was so uninteresting to him he couldn't even muster the focus to spellcheck his brief criticism. "King a boring," indeed.

  • @350z350zify I asked the guy in the parking lot the other day on 11/03/10, and he said they blocked the way to the top. I didn't believe it but I left anyway because the parking fee is $47 and I had no money.
