An unusual working for Network Rail's Class 150 unit 950001 today was the 2Q08 working from Cardiff to Gowerton via Swansea and Landore. where it ran over Cockett Bank to the West of Swansea in both directions as far West as Gowerton. It is seen at Gowerton arriving and departing on the first run, and at Cockett on the second run. The weather was superb and it was a very enjoyable mornings filming.

  • why was it numbered 950001 instead of 150001?

  • @Hornbylad200 It's because it's owned and operated by Network Rail, and is not for public use,.....Bob

  • Very nice shots of the assessment unit Bob and splendid conditions too. A sprinter in disguise. :) Keith

  • @MonochromeLoco This unit has been around for over 30 years now and has travelled all over the UK....Thanks for watching....Bob

  • Excellent video. Does anyone know - why does a train have one light on at the front (or if both are on, one is always brighter than the other)?

  • @terratec365 These lights are to give the driver better visibility at night, and I can only assume that during the day, one can be switched off...Thanks for your comment....Bob

  • @1adamstephen It was a glorious morning Adam, and thanks for your comments...Bob

  • @Jonern67 This unit is unique and has been doing this track inspection work on secondary and Branch lines for some 25 years now. There are many single track lines in the UK, some built that way and some like this that were singled in the 1980's for economical reasons. This line is part of the South Wales Main Line to Fishguard Harbour, and is singled in two stretches along its route...Bob
