Screen version of a clip. Shown at MTV in 1992 to 1993, together with fully animated version, later on a combined one was created. It was shot to support Innuendo album mainly in May-June 1991, save for some editing shots.
There is little data about this clip. It is non-narrative, with some elements of cinematic expressionism. It simulates the performance of the team on the stage. There is information that the editing shots with Brian May (a solo guitarist) were shot a bit a much later. Truly, none of the short group shots and editing shots with camera passing by the team of musicians doesnt contain May. A vague, very long shot closer to the end of the clip containing all four musicians of the team is a video cut, created by means of reserve shots, for the hardware of those times didnt allow creating a trustworthy video cut at close shots and in shots with camera passing.
It was finally shot and shown on MTV after Mercurys death.
The clip was shot at the television studio at Wimble. The same decoration as for most scenes of I Am Going Slightly Mad was used, which crease an impression of logic connection between these two pieces. A confused, eclectic suit worn by Mercury (jogging trousers, classic shirt, but with cuff links and tie, a stylish waistcoat with portraits of his cats, accented by the passing camera) makes an impression of a mess and mental disorder. He looks into the camera thoroughly for a long time, and in the course of viewing of the clip there creates an invisible connection between him and a spectator.
The last editing shot with Mercury attracts particular attention: it is the last video shot in the life of a great musician. In the opinion of fans, in this last shot Mercurys looking a Heaven, saying the words of love to the One dwelling there: he is not grumbling, he put up with his personal tragedy. He bows to the viewers, saying goodbye to them and understanding that he is unlikely to be shot again; then he says that he still loves his viewers. The shot is cut a bit from the end, and after the cut there are inserted the shots which seemed more suitable to those who completed this piece without Mercury. The same shot (but without the beginning) after Mercurys death was used at the end of In My Defense clip (1992): Mercury leaves the shot in a jump, and by waving his hand he seems to be taking with him an invisible connection with the viewer. Therefore, according to Mercurys intention, the clip suggested certain narration, urgent in May and June 1991. Later on, after Mercurys death, when the ready clip was shown on the TV, the viewers saw just its distorted version. And the goodbye and assertion in never ending love for the viewers, despite all, at the beginning of summer 1991 became a postmortem farewell.
This clip was widely presented at this web-site, but for an unknown reason it was withdrawn by the users who uploaded it. We upload it here again for it should be here. It is not as bright and spectacular as his previous clips which Freddie worked at; it doesnt contain a sophisticated allegoric and symbolic narration, intricate living pictures in expressionist style, representing a vast field for survey. But in view of all accompanying circumstances, this simple black-and-white clip must be the most dramatic and affecting one in the whole clip-making history.
