ANOTHER WORLD: Frankie Dies (Stalker Storyline) Pt. 3

The firing of AW alumni Alice Barrett was a sad and devastating blow to the fans of "Another World" for it set in motion the decision to kill off the character that she had portrayed for seven years: the beloved Frankie Frame.

Though brilliantly performed, the storyline is infamous for the controversy it sparked among the show's fans and the soap's executives as well as for the grisly violent way in which the character was murdered. The show never recovered from the loss of Frankie who, in many ways, represented the heart of the show.

In Part 3, Frankie attempts to leave to pick up her daughter at the sitters and is overcome with a sense of dread. While Cass talks with Joe & Felicia about their upcoming "second honeymoon" (an obvious plot device to garner more sympathy for Frankie when she dies), Frankie tries to have a patrol car come by the house but is rebuffed when she indicates she didn't actually see a prowler. She then calls Cass at Carlino's, letting him know how frightened she is, urges him to come home, and tells him that she loves him and Charlie. This call is the last conversation Cass will have with her while she's alive.

While trying to calm herself with meditation, the stalker enters the house and extinguishes a candle that Frankie had lit, symbolizing Frankie's life which is about to be snuffed out. Frantic, she leaves the house with a gun, makes noise knocking over something which alerts the stalker, turns over her channeling pyramid to alert Cass, and drives off in her car that doesn't start right away.

Cass and Joe arrive at the house to find Frankie gone. Joe offers to go contact the police station and look for her and a frustrated Cass, trying to find someway to connect with Frankie, anticipates what she would do, finding her channeling pyramid turned to its side.

While frantic with fear, Frankie's car breaks down on one of the Cory's roads. She knows the stalker is coming. She tries to fix her car problem but sees that it's been sabotaged by the stalker. At that moment the stalker approaches and she crouches behind her car, temporarily out of view. When the stalker gets close enough, she jumps out in front of him, gun in hand, demanding to know who he is and what he wants.
