@yanarene What an ignorant comment. Most successful solar light companies are based in the U.S. not in Japan. They may look nice, but there is a difference between looking nice and working.
-
I have heard that a lot of Japanese buildings have solar panels installed... is this true?

@TheJapanChannelDcom From what I was able to find these are made by a Canadian Co. called Remote Hybrid Systems. Unless they're just a reseller of some kind.

In the UK they are thinking off turning some street lights off at night to save money!.
Japan is great as they invest in new technology for the benefit of society.

In fact now thinking of this, perhaps such a generator could be shared between multiple lights. I am not sure if having a generator per light is a good idea - unless it can be made very very cheap!
-
Such a unit could be totally independent, so you could leave cables connecting it to a power grid out. And also control cables are not needed when it has a sensor to detect when there is not enough light so.
So whilst it is more expensive, there is also some stuff that can be left out. And also that it doesn't need power from other sources may be a big win - but for this indeed the cost of construction needs to be really trimmed down.

@Emidretrauqe In Sparta streetlights are powered by....MADNESS.

what a great idea.....
-
In Soviet Russia, streetlights are powered by potatoes.
-
interesting
Is that a solar panel on the top? That street light won't run out of energy anytime soon.
