in clay ovens , the firts layers the inside one is made with a sand clay mixture enough clay for a ball of it to hold together and enough sand to stop it squashing on impact when dropped from hip level and a little straw . The insulating layer has more straw in it and the last oven clay straw and muck, horse or cow. it is fired by the heat of firing the oven,. look at by "poclets of the future" and others.
