San Diego Fires 2007 (Las Pulgas/Basilone/Camp Pendelton)

I risked my life getting this shot...I was the only idiot getting on the freeway out of San Clemente to this blaze. This shot was take on the side of the 5 Freeway on the southbond side. As you see the flames were unattended by any fire fighters, just virgin fires engulfing the Northbound side of the 5. I was stuck in Oceanside just after this shot and spend 9 hours getting home. Scary stuff, but well worth the experience being around people who needed to talk and vent.

I can tell you for a fact that this would never have been a planned burn, too large scale, but from where you are shooting it the wind is pushing it away so your house should have been safe. Did you call the Fire Dept, or Forest Service? Is that is San Bernardino County, because they would have pulled in guns blazing.

Thanks for taking this shot. So far, no seriously cynical people have left horrible comments here about "This is what America gets!" or, even from NY people saying, "Like you were too far way to care about 9/11, we're too far away to care about you!" Can you believe that crap? I can't. I hope this ends soon...
