He actually put some 2D messages in the viewport nothing more, the 3D part is all job of the the Quake engine. Nice hack but nothing more than that.
DirectX and OpenGL existed much earlier than Flash Player.

well it is being rendered by flash player, the guy made a C/C++ to AS3 interpreter, and the Quake engine was written in C, and this is back before graphics library's like OpenGL and Direct X were used (even existed?)
The wiki page for the quake engine has details on how it optimises rendering, it is a Very old game.

Uh.. it's just a wrapper. Nothing is rendered by Flash Player, otherwise it would slow as a turtle.
-
obviously...
-
i dont think he meant there was anything wrong with new games.
he meant that only old games would be ABLE to run on flash.
you literally would not be able to run most new games on flash is the point
-
And... your point is? Besides the fact that you obviously think a game is good just by what 'engine' it runs on?
-
A brand spankin new game wouldent be able to run in flash.
-
Whats wrong with new games?
-
this is awesome
retro gaming: yes,
New games: defintely not.
That would be sweet though somone should just make a site with tons of retro games on flash.

I wasn't suggesting that flash player existed before DirectX or OpenGL, my point was that the Quake engine was around much longer before them, and therefore the Quake engine does the graphics rendering; therefore by interpreting the Quake engine, Flash player is inadvertently rending the graphics.
