I've finally gotten the team out of dry dock and will be unleashing it upon the general populace... because I'm totally obsessed with the Ghost type. I don't get it either, but I love it, so you're either going to sit there and watch it...or you're going to navigate away from this page and watch something else.

I'm not sure that most people are inclined to notice, but there's a total of ten fully-evolved Ghost type Pokémon out there, and not a one of them would I dismiss out of hand.

I'll point out that *technically* there are twelve fully-evolved Ghost types, but I don't count Giratina or Spooky Plate Arceus as options for the battles I prefer to conduct...although I'll gladly rise to the occasion and see how I fare against one or the other.

This means that we are just shy of having enough to go around for two teams' worth of nothing but Ghosts...and rather than cut four potential teammates, I decided to split up their numbers five-and-five and actually happen to be working Elektra's "sister" pass, which is the team of her brother Valter. If you were for whatever reason bored enough to notice me and my videos from about a year ago, that name should sound familiar and you should recognize some familiar faces.

I can't exactly say "all Ghost team" in the strictest sense, but I've decided to at least keep to monsters that fit in with the spooky specters of these passes.

I wouldn't normally put multiple battles on a single video, but these three are less about the battles they contain themselves and more about a simple "get to know the team!" kind of message.

---

vs. Nate

The first one actually happened to be a battle against what I believe was a simple Nate rental pass who immediately gave up. Either the Ghosts are too scary or he just wanted my friend pass...and I'll take either one of those as a compliment. I thought it was funny enough to show, anyway.

---

vs. Allen

Allen probably didn't have anybody to trade with, and actually that's not too devastating a problem, because Haunter is still ridiculously powerful, even if Gengar has a leg (or two) up on it in that category. Underestimate someone who uses a Haunter instead of a Gengar at your own peril. You have been warned.

Really what this one shows off is two key aspects to two staple team members, Sableye and Froslass. Sableye...well, he didn't do much this time, but he did show that he can take a lot more abuse than most people give him credit for.

Froslass is just really fast and really strong, a more specialized version of Glalie that trades well-rounded stats (which actually makes it harder for Glalie to stand out, unfortunately) for impressive speed and strong offense (both physical and special!) in exchange for some durability.

Anyway, you'll definitely be seeing more of these two.

I used Sableye and Froslass while Allen sent out Haunter, Mightyena, and Rotom.

---

vs. おたぬき
("Honorable Tanuki"...or perhaps a portmanteau of "Otaku-Tanuki")

This guy has a very stable-looking team, and not one of its members would you want to underestimate.

Here we get to take a closer look at Spiritomb...who unfortunately ended up completely stymied, but I absolutely swear by his performance when his moves aren't completely circumvented like this. He's a total oddball specialist that I've never actually seen anything quite like (there's probably a very good reason for that, y'know), so when he works, he works...and when he doesn't...well, you get this, but it's a lot less common than you might think.

A Spiritomb can basically specialize in any stat it wants and still stand out as long as that stat isn't HP or Speed. A very versatile contender, and unfortunately a bit wont to overshadow Sableye in the hearts and minds of trainers.

I would've at least liked the chance to hit with the initial Will-o-Wisp.

I confess that I'm not always sure which moves will work on a Substituted opponent, but now I guess for better or worse I know with certainty that includes Pain Split and Ghost-type Curse. Chin up...uh...disembodied face wisp guy, you'll get your chance another day.

The other major point to be taken from this battle is an important one. My Gengar is a shiny that was given to me as a gift (on Christmas no less!) when it was found in Old Chateau, and as such I didn't get a choice of nature. It's not hindering for anything that Gengar would particularly miss, but at the same time it means that he's just a tad slower than I'd like, and this is one of those situations where it shows. I was legitimately surprised to see Charizard take the initiative without the aid of a speed-enhancing berry before I could use Destiny Bond to neutralize him and that deadly Belly Drum boost of his.

It wouldn't have likely won me the battle, but it's still something to note.

I used Spiritomb, Gengar, and Froslass, and おたぬき used Luxray, Charizard, and one other unseen selection.

  • dude you need a destiny bond on froslas inted of sing and i subing you as you make great videos p.s you should narrate your videos

  • Others have told me to do that, but I already use Destiny Bond on Gengar, and I prefer not to rely on it too much and would hate to homogenize the movesets too much and become predictable. Besides, my Gengar is just slightly faster, and there's nothing Froslass could take with it that Gengar couldn't more certainly.

I prefer not to narrate, because I feel it distracts from the content at hand without adding enough to the presentation. It also cannot be turned off for viewers who do not want it.

  • The Belly Drum on the Charizard is pretty good strategy with Substitute and all but, he has to be pretty confident in it's Speed cause if that was Froslass instead of Spirtomb let just say it would have been bad for him.....

  • When you said one of the passes you faced was "Allen," I thought that was me. I guess I was wrong. I might like to train a Bibarel in the future though. It's interesting.

  • Heh. It's funny that the first two teams you faced were rental teams. Allen used Tommy's set of Pokemon, though I honestly don't recall Haunter having Hypnosis. Maybe it was a fake rental.

I agree Haunter should not be underestimated as I use one myself. Not that I didn't have anyone to trade with (as you know) but because I like Haunter more.

Yow! That Charizard really toppled your team. Haven't seen too many Belly-Zards. That's one risky strategy. Great matches.

  • god DAMN that charizard strat was just brutal :(
