Here's my Mini-Magitron. It has a small midi-keyboard, a laptop with mellotron-soundfonts and a pair of active PC-speakers inside. MM400 looks like a M400-mellotron and I think it sounds like a real mellotron.
You can see the project in progress at:
http://max.shivas.se/musik/utrustn/mini-magitron.htm Text is originally written in swedish and is only partly translated to english. Nevertheless, the pictures tells the story. After three years at youtube we now pass 50 000 people, that have been watching this movie.

And you can watch another musicvideo with this Mini-Magitron at youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsUz9zU5fb0

  • Two days ago, I found out that someone are using the sound from this video, in a track that he is selling at several sites at internet i.e. itunes, last.fm. amazon.com and many more sites. This he have done without asking me for permission. After I found out, I told him that I really do mind.

You should allways ask the owner of a creation before using it commercially!

    Do anyone agree?

  • Wow what a great idea, you could've just use a standard midi controller with a pc but instead you made it look awesome, keep it up !

  • you could sell these and make sooo much money

Marcus?

  • @sweeterthananything As you say this is no found sound and it's strange to use as a background but at the same time the only thing that makes sence in that track. Nevertheless he has been acting when I told him to remove that track from internet.

  • @maxbackstrom For too long we electronic/experimental musicians have been telling ourselves that anything goes. Like with found cassettes, intercepted radio transmissions, recorded conversations, etc. and too often it more represents a lack of consideration and in a case like yours, laziness. I think there needs to be some kind of ethical theory and practice that acknowledges the problems with literal copyright law/intellectual property and instead focuses on being fair and considerate.

  • @maxbackstrom That is unfortunate. I'll be honest and say I understand the motivation to use this as "found sound" because it's very aesthetically pleasing but I wouldn't because it isn't really found sound, it's another musician demonstrating something he has worked hard on and it's only 4 years old. I have been thinking about the ethics of "found sound" a lot. I hope he has respectfully responded to you and that he is more thoughtful about this sort of thing in the future.

  • @sweeterthananything Yes it contains all that is said and played here, so it's recognizable for sure.
