Time-lapse film shows an 80,000 pound set of blades being hoisted 300 feet and attached to the nacelle of of a wind turbine being erected on Wachusett mountain in Princeton, MA.

Two Fuhrländer 1.5 megawatt wind turbines will supply 40% of the town's power requirements.
Special note to comment on the stated weight of the blade set:
I won't call you stupid, but you certainly uninformed.
That "little" cable can lift 1,000,000 pounds. Learn how block and tackles work:

The nacelle (that's the box at the top of the tower that contains the generator) weighs in at 68 TONS (that's136,000 pounds) and was lifted by the same crane. Here is an information sheet listing common wind turbine specs: http://www.awea.org/pubs/factsheets/transportation.pdf

  • Nice oversize vid! :)

  • @BohmTech Most rotors weigh about 80,000 lbs for a 1.5 meg turbine. The larger ones are now pushing 160,000 or more. 1 inch rotation resistant hoist line is usually good for a breaking strength of over 150,000 lbs for one cable. look at his hook, he has roughly 8 parts of line reeved, that would give the total breaking strength of that at over 1.2 million pounds. Much more than the manitowoc 2250 can handle. His boom will colapse long before the cable will give.

  • great video, love that 2250

  • UR the man...Great job, Jay!
