Can you imagine, standing in front of stage and Buddy telling you "you play guitar don't you, you wanna play some?"
Absolutely amazing!
Song is "I'll play the blues for you" also played by Albert King.

  • that young man was a student from the delta blues museum in clarksdale and they play good music . those young people have played at a lot of different functions and in front of a lot of people. and i agree with those that say it was kinda hard on him using his thumb for his pick just from his tone it sounded like he uses one.

  • @mak761 Cool! How do you know this?

  • what record is this?

  • @robz1471 I'll play the blues for you (Albert King)

  • I agree that Buddy's definitely got soul, but another thing you've gotta understand, the poor guy had to play with his thumb, while Buddy was playing with a pick. That definitely made a difference.

  • That dude oplayed really well, but listwen to the tonal difference when Buddy picks it u, that biggr fatter louder sound, just shows how much is in the fingers and the soul when it comes to guitar, and especially blues.

  • The fellow that got called up on stage possibly only plays with his thumb. The 'finger only' method is fairly common from what I know, in 'proper' blues-elecric or acoustic, taught in the South. I would say it's a bit unusual to not finger pick, though. Still pretty f'n amazin'

My understanding (from his book) is that Howlin' Wolf told Hubert Sumlin to forget using the pick. If he really wanted to play with him, come back when he learned how to use his fingers-Hubert still plays that way today.

  • Honestly, I think the guy played well and had s solid understanding of Albert King's percussive playing style.

Maybe we guitar owners should always carry a pick, just in case!

  • @ivarus75 check video the babies got the blues , the dbm curator/director talks about anthony.

she says in this video he was with the group from dbm that played the white house..

  • @ivarus75 i live in clarksdale...that was a big show in town that night...john mayall played before buddy,

as well as the dbm students if i'm not mistaken...check out this story..type in the babies got the blues

  • I'd be shaking like a chihuahua.

  • What a great guy he is. The whole night was all about him, and he turned it around on a guy in the audience for a brief moment. As if the guy wasn't happy enough being at a Buddy Guy concert, he gets to play buddy's guitar!

  • alot of blues players (dare I say most) just use their thumb to pick

  • @alexisedme He's got a strap. It's just loose.
