The Otsu Matsuri began about 350 years ago and is similar to the Gion Matsuri in Kyoto. On the day of the festival, 13 huge floats are pulled through the city while thousands of people watch. This festival takes place every year in early October preceding Health-Sports Day.

It was an amazing experience for me to be a part of this very traditional event. I hope you enjoy it too!

  • every year, they ask for a few volunteers and this year they asked the prefectural board of education who asked a few ALTs to participate. about 12 of us volunteered. it was such a great experience. i hope to do it next year too!

  • 9 hours, phew. No wonder you haven't been able to post lately.

Good to see you're enjoying your busy times though.

  • It was a long day for sure! Now that winter is coming, my schedule will open up more so I can make more videos. Thanks for hanging in there!

  • love your channel mate, i intend to apply for the JET program when i finish uni.

  • The actual pulling of the ropes looked more symbolic than actually tugging, where as the guys pushing the cart itself looked to be doing most of the work. I can imagine if you reach an incline street then pulling would be more involved...am I wrong? Long day it seemed - thanks for the show. I also noticed the height looked pretty close to the overhead cables (possibly for electric powered buses?).

  • It was late and I couldn't think of anything constructive or ridiculous to say, but I wanted you to know I watched.

  • cool its great that your getting involved with the japanese community hope to see more in the future

  • long time since you posted a video man=O

  • Hey, hey, hey!

  • Thank you. :)
