"New Pop involved a renaissance of glam's interest in artifice and androgyny, all the delicious games you could play with pop idolatry. Perhaps the climax of all these tendencies was the bizarre critical apotheosis of Dollar, a schlocky male-female duo who had broken away from the middle-of-the-road vocal troupe Guys and Dolls. Dollar had already garnered a smidgen of campy admiration from hipsters for their sheer plasticness, but when they teamed up with superproducer Trevor Horn, the duo's fabricated fakeness took on an almost conceptual extremity, as if they were a work of Pop Art."

Oh wow! being a Danish exchange student staying with a beautiful family in Eastbourne back in 1982, brings back memories. I loved Dollar and missed their performance on TOTP back then and here I am watching it now years later on youtube ... crazy but thank you for posting it. Amazing! Definitely a Trevor Horn moment and fantastic.

Maybe it's a sign of my memory of youth, but I still find Thereza Bazar in this vid a lot bloody sexier than modern day talentless, gormless bints such as Cheryl Cole.

Cheesy pop haters will hate it but I loved it. You just have to look at the music that Trevor Horn has produced over the years to realise he has a magic touch - it's all about the 'sound'. ABC's Lexicon of Love, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Yes 90125, Grace Jones Slave to the Rhythm and a whole host of others. For me his later stuff such a the Robbie album have lost the 'uniqueness' that his sound usually has - but he totally deserved his recent Command of the British Empire award. Genius.
