@MrSbunk line 3: Yes, IT may... * sorry for spelling wrong
-
@bams000 Well, I partly agree with you. I have heard better versions of this piece, with more expierienced counter-tenor soloists, but this is not a bad record, not at all. Yes, the may sound a little shaky, but it is a question of controlling your vibrato and finally singing counter-tenor is not easy at all.
-
@bams000 I disagree. Singing counter tenor is not easy anyway but this performance is very good.

One spelling mistake and one failure to use a capital letter...get over it and get a life, please! Furthermore, spelling is not relevant to the point i was making, about the MUSIC!
-
bams000. Well. Your spelling to start with. Secondly, as you're obviously no teenager, use capital letters. You're not on your mobile now.
-
I love this music and the singing ofthe counter tenor my whole life long.
-
well then i hate to say it, but who have you got to sing it the many dozens of times you've performed it. The performance is shaky, weak and lacking emotion, which it should definitely have, given the text. The singer is not up to this solo...and i think many proper singers would agree with me. Finally if this is your idea of stunning, then God knows what you would see as being appauling
-
This is art. "Stunning" is a subjective term. If I say it's stunning, it's stunning for me and it is not for anyone else to gainsay that. I've sung / played / conducted / heard this anthem, in both incarnations, many dozens of times in a long life, and this is the finest reading of the Alto incarnation I have heard.
-
sorry but how can you say the lower end is stunning...as a counter tenor i can definitely say none of the voice is stunning, not least the bottom end.
-
Actually, the more you listen to this soloist, the more utterly appropriate he is. In the score, the part is Alto 2. The tessitura is LOW, and many would be deploying some light baritone on the notes below the stave. But this guy holds his falcetto right down to the Aflat, and holds it firmly. A classic SECOND Alto - his "top end" is not world class, and you can hear him draw breath for the higher notes. But the lower end of his range is stunning. Sobering thought - he's probably dead now.
Thanks for posting. I play in a small group and we are going to perform this soon. Do five viols play with your choir?

Haha, sorry, but I wish I could be part of this choir. This is a recording from the King's College Chapel Choir which I have owned for a long time and felt it needed to be shared. As for the musical accompaniment, I couldn't say.
