@quiconjinn Exactly. It's actually Palpatine who is the ultimate villain, while Vader is really the victim. He tries to redeem himself and regain his humanity, which he does because of Luke. When he saves Luke, he does destroy the Sith when he kills Palpatine and then dies himself, bringing balance to the Force, just as the prophecy predicted. And when he does this, he becomes Anakin once more. Luke held the same belief about Anakin just as Padme did.

Darth Vader is not the bad guy he is actually the victim and it is true he does bring balance to the force when he throw into the shaft and dies moments later in the hangar and therefore the sith order are gone for good. @2girls1krillin True, but I still think it was dodgy... it was kinda like a last second decision to "bring balance to the force"...
If he let Luke get zapped for a few more seconds, it all would have been rubbish.

@GiaJone888x That's because this movie was made before The phantom menace, Attack of the clones and Revenge of the Sith. Actually A new hope was made in 1977 and it was the fist Star wars movie ever and The empire stricks back was second movie and Return of Jedi was third and last. They just maded tree movies more to show how everything happened from the start
