    I have never really understood why so many people call "Life of Brian" blasphemy. I'm not gonna pretend there are no religious jokes in the film, but wasn't the hole point of the movie that Brian was NOT the messiah? In fact, not only was Jesus in the movie, but he might have been the only character of the movie who was not made fun of.

    I think people who call Brian a parody of Jesus entirely missed out the point.

    Well said. In fact, I think a lot of the people who complain haven't seen the movie at all. They have just heard about it from other overzealus believers. They don't need to watch the movie, because they "know" it's blasphemy.

    Because of this, they don't give the movie a chance to show how clever it really is.

    The movie was a parody on the overzealous believers we have today and in any age.

    They take offense because they don't want to bother examining, and have most likely not watched the movie from beginning to end

    Sometimes I feel that there is no hope for this world with the amount of closed minded people we have =(

    Python's humor is much more deep than that. Political, religious, social concepts are mocked in cunning ways. To compare it to schoolyard jokes is indeed comparing a tea kettle to a steam locomotive. :P
