I'm American, and I think this is very funny. There are actually more Atheists over here than you think, growing more and more. It's been talked about on CNN and even FOX news lately about a growing trend of Atheists here in the States. However, the "Bible Belt" still reigns supreme, as the South is still by far majority Christian.

He said it a month ago or so. I believe Hawking is an atheist who doesnt want to hurt religious feelings, that's why he's always unclear about his personal believes in God. This guy is smart, he knows strong atheistic language will scare off theists.They wouldn't want to listen to his theories anymore. But that's my opinion.

@ARandomCanadian just like you just assumed there is a supercreature, without any evidence?At least scientists constantly test and reconsider.Trial and error.Theories are allways based on something.God isn't based on anything but emotions and the inability to deal with lack of knowledge.That, mixed with the fear of finality (death),created all kinds of religions.Scientists can't handle their own ignorance either, but they aren't affraid to admit wrong theories, that's the essence of their job.

@baconeater agnostics don't really exist, because it's obvious. No one can be 100% sure about anything. Atheism is based on plausibility, not truth. It's searching for truth and trying to come as close to it as possible. The thing with socalled agnostics is that they are useless in discussions. No one can argue with "we can't know for sure". At least try to express a preference, it's just an opinion. What if everyone handled questions that way? We would still be living in caves right now.

Agnostic is someone who doesn't know for sure. Not someone who is skeptical about scientific fact. You have time to figure it out. One day you will realize what I'm talking about.
