This is your friendly neighborhood butcher from Mo,..and I don't horribly disagree with ya...You wanna hear something strange...I once found a pack of farmland bacon in the bottom of the smoked meat case when it iced up...it, was out of date by at least 2 years and looked great,....although noticed it rapidly rotting the second I cut it open....ever since then I've been shying from preservatives which means every single pound of processed anything in this country.

"Titanic" signifies ignorance, like George W. Bush's "stay the course" strategy.

@BayviewFinch Hey, your funeral. Enjoy! :-D
BTW, today's LA Times (5/15/2011) reports that as much as half of all meat currently in stores (beef, chicken, pork, turkey) is infected with drug-resistant Staphylococcus bacteria. Yummy, dude...savor the flavor!

@dubitandum - I die every minute. I was a vegetarian long ago, but now I'm not. The meat I eat is healthy. I don't eat any more than the average North American. A lot of us animals eat meat. If we didn't, the cycle of life would stall. What I prefer is to see people enjoying their food. Take a look at a country like Japan where food is respected. Yes, they eat meat, and sometimes things uncommon here, but they're slim, healthy, and know how to enjoy all aspects of eating a meal.

@BayviewFinch Glad you enjoy your meat...I just couldn't possibly eat it. I've been veg since I was about 2-3 years old, and realized I was eating creatures that weren't that different from me, and it turned my stomach to the point where I've not knowingly ate meat in the 40 years since. That's just me. I know, however, --and agree with you--that I can't exist without having life and death pass through my ken from one second to the next...bacterium, vegetables, my own skin cells, etc... :-)

@BayviewFinch
In the end, the health/danger to health aspects of modern factory meat production are real, obviously...but the ethical dimension is for every being to determine for him/herself. :-)
