United Streetcar was formed in 2005 to build modern, efficient, safe, and reliable streetcars. And thanks in part to grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Transit Administration, United Streetcar has developed and built streetcars with the highest percentage of American parts and labor in more than 50 years. Over 200 vendors in 20+ states have worked on their streetcar prototype.

United Streetcar's decision to manufacture domestically has done more than make Portland, Oregon the heart of America's streetcar renaissance. It is creating jobs, boosting other businesses, and laying the foundation for economic development in Portland and around the country.

  • I would love to see a new streetcar as successful and beautiful as the old PCC trolleys, and bringing back manufacturing to America would be fantastic. Best of luck!

  • These streetcars have already been manufactured for over a decade. The first ones were purchased from Europe back in 2001, which was 11 years ago. They have certainly proven to be very reliable, comfortable, and rock-solid.

  • Pleeeeeeeeease let this idea work

  • I'd love a streetcar designed to look retro but have modern comforts.

  • I was reminded in viewing this video of the early 1970s when Boeing began building "new" streeetcar vehicles and Grumman began building "new" urban transit buses. Neither of these "new", "Made in America" transit vehicles were manufactured for more than a decade. Hopefully, this most recent generation of vehicles will be a bit more successful and long-lasting than their predecessors of the previous generation.
